THREE-YEAR RESIDENCIES AT THE SEATTLE TIMESNote: The Times currently has an opening for a three-year reporting residency. The three-year positions in arts/graphics and in photo temporarily have been suspended. You are welcome to apply at any time for the resident program in news writing and sports. We will keep applications on file until there is a vacancy for which we can hire.The Seattle Times three-year residency is designed for beginning journalists with some previous experience in a news organization. The program gives journalists a range of newsroom experiences, plus on-the-job training and development. Our current opening is for a three-year reporting residency in Metro. We're looking for someone who's shown an ability to find and break news, report on deadline and write engaging feature and enterprise stories. Strong digital and multimedia skills are a plus. Running StartBoth The Seattle Times and residents invest considerable time and effort. Each receives much in return. For The Seattle Times, there's reward in mentoring motivated beginners and adding their talents and energy to the newspaper. For participants, there's opportunity to explore career interests and develop high-quality professional skills. Strong FinishResidents receive a development plan and regular feedback, and gain a variety of experiences. The Seattle Times offers varied training opportunities. Residents are encouraged to attend newsroom brownbag training sessions on writing, editing and other journalistic skills. Mentors provide individual coaching. Qualifications: Successful applicants must have graduated by the time the residency begins. Additional experience with a news organization is required. Applicants must have had successful internships at large, metropolitan dailies or other news organizations and/or a year or two experience at a professional news organization.
